Cambridge Early Years marks the beginning of an exciting educational journey that helps children aged 3 to 6 to gain knowledge and develop skills they need in order to thrive both in school and beyond.
The curriculum is child-oriented and play-based, helping children develop at their own pace and connect their development with the world and people around them.
This programme provides everything necessary for high-quality early childhood education: a comprehensive and balanced curriculum, the use of a variety of classroom resources and innovative assessment approaches to monitor development and progress.
Within this programme there are six areas that help guide and support progress in all areas of child development. Those areas are: Communication and Literacy, Creative Expression, Mathematics, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Understanding the World.
Communication and Literacy
Speaking, listening, reading and writing are essential to children's early development.
Exploring the importance of language through fun activities and dealing with different types of texts strongly encourages curiosity and the desire for acquiring knowledge.
Creative Expression
Creative expression allows children to communicate their ideas and develop their imagination through art and design, music, dance and drama.
This important area integrates skills and cognitive processes from the entire curriculum.
Mathematics
At an early age, it is important to help children understand how mathematics impacts everyday life.
Through games and various activities, we can introduce children to mathematical language, thinking and concepts that will be necessary when they start their primary education.
Physical Development
Our curriculum encourages children to develop movement skills through play, helping them develop positive attitudes towards exercise and laying the foundations for a healthy and active life.
Personal, Social and Emotional development
This area is central to children's lives. It is the basis of their well-being and achievements in all other areas of their learning.
It helps them develop social skills, establish and maintain friendships, regulate their emotional reactions and responses to the needs of others, as well as develop self-esteem and self-confidence.
Understanding the World
This area of the curriculum fosters children's natural curiosity as they explore the world around them.
It lays the foundation for a range of different subjects in primary education and further beyond, including science, digital literacy and computing, as well as social studies.
Cambridge Early Years is the first stage of the Cambridge Pathway programme. By extending this programme to younger students, Cambridge now offers a clear pathway to educational success from years 3 to 19.
